Make Your Own Nutritional Powder

Start controlling what you eat and what’s put into your food.

I’ve seen powders in the store for $20-30 for 1/3 lb container. There are some great ingredients in them, but there are also fillers and preservatives.

My children don’t like a lot of different vegetables, but with this powder that I make myself, they don’t have to. I don’t have to worry about any textures or flavors they won’t eat.

Another thing, I love to grow all the things. But we don’t eat all the things. For example, I grow beets in the winter, because I enjoy growing them. Yet no one in my household will eat them. While I do offer them out to friends, family and community, I will also use them in a powder form to ensure my family gets the nutritional benefits that they offer. A few of these perks are antioxidants, improved cardiovascular health, anti-inflammatory properties, bone health, and with beets, the list goes on and on.

You can even put scraps that you’d normally compost into your powder, pepper tops, onion/garlic skins and bulb ends, plant leaves that are edible that you may not care for like carrot leaves or beet greens, fruit peels, etc.

The picture shown only has sweet peppers, a tiny amount of jalapeño, carrots, onions and garlic. Over time, I will add more. Today I will be dehydrating some celery, mushrooms, green onions and greens. I will then grind some of each and add to my nutritional powder.

I can add this, along with flax and chia seeds if I want, to smoothies, soups, stews, sauces, casseroles, etc. I can even use it in spice rubs and marinades for meat. The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination.

Let’s ditch the store, use our scraps and add these nutrients to our bodies.
