French Toast

Serving Size : 8

Prep time: 5 mins; Cook time: 20 minutes

bacon grease

3 eggs, beaten in shallow dish

1 c heavy cream

3 T cinnamon

½ c brown sugar

Pinch nutmeg

Pinch ginger

2 T vanilla

French bread, sliced at least ½” thick

butter, powdered sugar, syrup and/or fruit, for serving

  • PH oven to 200°.

  • Heat grease on medium low.

  • In shallow dish, pour heavy cream in beaten eggs; mix well. (A pie plate or casserole dish works well).

  • Add cinnamon, brown sugar, nutmeg, ginger, vanilla; mix well.

  • Lightly, but thoroughly, cover both sides of 2-3 slices of bread (whatever will fit in your frying pan at one time) with the egg mixture. Carefully place each slice in skillet; make sure to leave room for a large spatula, so you can flip them.

  • Turn heat to low; turn bread slices after a minute or so (once bottom is golden brown). Fry second side a minute or so, until golden brown.

  • Take slices out of skillet and place in casserole dish in warm oven.

  • Repeat coating, frying, transferring to oven until all slices are cooked.

  • Serve with butter, powdered sugar, syrup or fruit.
