Home Renovations and Decluttering

We bought a fixer upper, so we constantly have projects going on.

Our home is older and thus has limited storage space. We have to get creative and there's usually a lot of stuff moved back and forth. Until today.

Friday we bought a new 12 cube organizer meant to help organize the front room.

Yesterday we were gifted 2 of those 6' bookshelves that are made of mdf and come in a box.

Today we were gifted a cabinet for the bathroom, a chest of drawers and a large (real wood) bookshelf.

So we went from almost no storage space to (hopefully) an abundance.

We're using the cube, like I said, to organize some things in the front room. We have a separate schoolhouse, for homeschooling, but sometimes it's easier to do school in the house. So the cube will hold homeschool supplies, some craft supplies (most of this resides in the schoolroom), some garden supplies (again schoolroom for most of it), and some other things that are homed in the front room.

The chest of drawers is going to be used by middle child, and their dresser was moved to the kids' bathroom for bathroom and bedroom linens, as well as other bathroom storage needs.

The cabinet went in the master bathroom on top of the dresser that we already had in there. If you don't have a bathroom closet for linens, and you have the room, I highly recommend something with drawers to hold towels, toilet paper, feminine products, curtains, etc. Ours has been a lifesaver.

The 3 bookshelves will be used mostly as a makeshift place to hold pots, pans, dishes, platters, mixing bowls, utensils, etc, etc, etc. We have two bookshelves already in the kitchen dedicated to serving as a food pantry.

We have plans to gut the kitchen, and along with that we will build a full size pantry that will hold not only our food, but all the dishes, gadgets, etc. When that happens, we will have plenty of bookshelves to move to the schoolroom for various uses. I plan on keeping 1-2 in the front room for storage and decorative items.

No pictures today. Nothing has been utilized yet. It was a full time job today going to get everything and getting it in the house.

In the midst of all this, we are also clearing out my mom's storage unit. I went through 2 of her bins today and got rid of everything but a cookbook. There were a bunch of books, wax warmers, decorative items and kitchen stuff, with some of our outgrown clothes and some other household items thrown in for good measure.

Listed on local free sites and 4 boxes will be out the door in the morning.

We have 2 more bins to go through in the morning after those are picked up. We will likely get more next weekend. I don't want to bring home more than I can handle over a couple of days.

Yes, we like to stay busy.
